COLD SPRING — A victory was in the cards for the Willmar girls golf team on Monday. Willmar took first place in a Central Lakes Conference meet hosted by Rocori at Rich-Spring Golf Club. Willmar totaled 353 strokes, which beat Alexandria’s 358 and Brainerd’s 360. “The Willmar girls golf team got its first conference team win in many, many years,” head coach Bryan Mara said. “It was difficult playing conditions tonight, but the kids fought hard.” Sartell’s Gwen Latunski took home the medalist honors with a four-over-par 76. She was the only golfer to break 80 as Alexandria’s Cadence Simon placed second at 81 and Brainerd’s Meredith Holmstrom placed third with an 84. Willmar secured its first place finish behind its four scoring golfers all placing in the top 15. Avery OIson led the way for Willmar, carding an 85 to tie for fourth place with Brainerd’s Madalyn Holmstrom. Kennedy Mara finished one stroke behind Olson at 86 and shared sixth place with St. Cloud’s Sara Balmori. Lucia Martin Rodriguez also broke into the top 10 as she earned a share of ninth place with Sartell’s Taylor Draxler-Gainsforth at 89. And rounding out Willmar’s day with a 14th place finish was Raelynn Means with a 93. Willmar last won a CLC title in 1989. Willmar’s girls play in another CLC meet hosted by the St. Cloud Crush at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Territory Golf Club in St. Cloud.

CLC Meet - Brainerd
Detroit Lakes edged the host Warriors in a Central Lakes Conference meet at Cragun’s Legacy Courses in Brainerd. The Lakers totaled 294 strokes, defeating Brainerd’s 295 and Alexandria’s 303. Willmar finished in fourth place at 315. Brainerd’s Alex Imgrund earned medalist honors with a two-under-par 69. He beat teammate Aydan Dobis and Detroit Lakes’ Tyler Stensgard by one stroke. Both shot 70s. Luke Larson was the top performer for Willmar. The sophomore shot a one-over-par 72, good for a share of fifth place with Brainerd’s Jack Hagberg. WCC Meet - Buffalo Lake
New London-Spicer breezed past the field at a Wright County Conference meet hosted by Dassel-Cokato at Oakdale Golf Club in Buffalo Lake. NLS recorded a 299, followed by Dassel-Cokato’s 320 and Litchfield’s 324. Six of the Wildcats’ seven golfers finished in the top 10, three of which earned top 3 spots. Gabe Truscinski earned medalist honors, carding an even-par 72. He was followed by teammates Eli Engebretson, who shot a 73, and Blake Kath, who tallied a 74. Reid Kath tied for sixth place with Watertown-Mayer’s Bryce Maass and Annandale’s Evan Hinnenkamp. All three golfers had 76s. Then there was Max Truscinski and Luke Hannig who shared ninth place with Annandale’s Miles Hendrickson. The three golfers all finished with 77s.
