BURKBURNETT, Texas (KAUZ) - At River Creek Park Golf Course on June 14, the “Get Tee’d Off at Cancer” golf scramble fundraiser took place. Family, friends, and members of law enforcement, among many others, golfed and showed their support for Cynthia Vasquez as she battles stage four non-small cell lung cancer. The money raised goes to help with her treatment and other related expenses. Cynthia is the mother of Chris and Jacob Vasquez. Both are officers for the Wichita Falls Police Department. Jacob said the support his family received today is awesome. “I mean, it’s amazing. I think that the turnout here today is remarkable. I mean to see people come out of really the woodwork and come here [to] support my mom and kind of help with her fight against cancer. I mean, it’s the best feeling in the world. I mean it just shows the kind of support that my mom has, and it’s a great feeling,” Jacob said. Jacob said that he and his family also have the support of another family, their blue family at the police department. “Police service is a family, we support each other, and when one of us is hurting or something happens to one of us, I mean we kind of rally around each other. It’s no different if it’s me or somebody else. We do the same for each other, and it is a blue family. Not only do I have my family, but I have my family in blue to support me, and it’s a great feeling,” Jacob said.
