While outlining details of the COVID-19 vaccine distribution, he also extended the statewide mask mandate for at least 30 days.

The COVID-19 virus is continuing to spread with new cases being reported each day. Scientists and public leaders are continuing to enforce the use of masks to reduce the spread of the disease.

In a press release and video on January 6, 2021, Governor Polis extended the statewide mask mandate for at least another 30 days. In the video update, Polis is joined by Executive Director of the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment, Jill Hunsaker-Ryan.

The focus of the video and press release was to update Coloradoans on the vaccine status and process. The state will move "from Phase 1A of the vaccination process to Phase 1B, which includes Coloradans aged 70 and up. Colorado remains hopeful that Phase 1 can be completed this winter and the move to Phase 2 can happen by the spring."

"As we continue the state’s vaccination process, it is our mission to ensure no community is left behind,” Executive Director Jill Hunsaker Ryan said. “The ability to vaccinate Coloradans is a moment we’ve all been preparing for and it is thrilling that we are finally here. For CDPHE, it is our mission to efficiently distribute vaccines as quickly as the federal supply chain allows. We are well on our way to making that goal a reality."

The CDC provides detailed information on the proper way to wear a mask, preferred materials, and mask alternatives. Thankfully, masks are not necessary when you're outside and not around others or when you are with family members who live in your home with you.

"When you wear a mask, you protect others as well as yourself. Masks work best when everyone wears one."
