The Scottsdale City Council has officially confirmed Greg Caton as the new city manager, locking in the leadership role after an interim stint that began earlier this year. Caton, who initially joined the City of Scottsdale as an assistant city manager in May 2024, has now been entrusted to helm the office permanently following the vacancy left by former City Manager Jim Thompson. Moving swiftly to fill the spot, the council found Caton to ably step into the interim position, evaluating him through the crucible of day-to-day governance. According to an announcement from the city , Mayor Lisa Borowsky praised Caton, saying, "Greg Caton has proven to be a thoughtful, experienced and collaborative leader. We are confident in his ability to guide Scottsdale forward and continue delivering the high level of service our community expects." Caton's extensive background in municipal management spans nearly three decades and includes positions such as city manager for Grand Junction, Colorado, and town manager for Oro Valley, Arizona. He's also no stranger to assistant city manager roles, having served in that capacity in Durango, Colorado. His academic credentials include a bachelor's degree in political science and a master's in public administration, alongside his professional recognition as a Credentialed Manager through the International City/County Management Association (ICMA). "I am truly honored to serve as Scottsdale’s city manager," Caton told the city’s news outlet . "This city has an amazing team, a deep commitment to its residents, and a City Council that that provides thoughtful, visionary leadership. I am excited to build on Scottsdale’s great momentum and deliver the world-class services our residents expect and deserve." With over 2,600 city employees and a budget totaling $2.3 billion to oversee, Caton’s new role will challenge him to carefully guide the city’s operations and continue to foster the community’s high standard of living.
