The recalled models were sold at Target between March and July.
Hasbro has recalled two models of Super Soakers sold exclusively at Target. Super Soaker models XP 20 and XP 30 have been pulled off the shelves due to labels that have a potentially unsafe amount of lead exceeding the measures allowed by the federal government in a 1978 ban.
Although lead poisoning is not a common issue in 2020, some products may fall through the cracks. According to Hasbro's website, “A third-party manufacturer sourced these stickers from an unauthorized supplier, without our consent and in violation of our quality assurance procedures and requirements." After launching an investigation, the company voluntarily issued the recall and “put corrective actions in place with the third-party manufacturer." Hasbro also began a re-training process throughout the company to safeguard against further mishaps.
In the United States, about 52,900 units of Super Soaker models XP 20 and XP 30 were sold at Target from March to July 2020, for $7.99 and $12.99 respectively. The XP 20 (E6286) is a green and orange handheld water blaster; the similar XP 30 (E6289) is orange and blue with a more traditional pump. An additional 67,100 units have been sold throughout Europe with prices varying depending on country and retailer.

No incidents have been reported, but consumers are urged to take the blasters away from children if they are in possession of them. They should contact the manufacturer for instructions on returns and receiving a full refund. Customers will be asked to unscrew the water tank from the blaster and return it using a prepaid postage label.
