With Halloween right around the corner, now is the perfect time to get in the spirit of the holiday with a haunted activity.

Luckily, you don't have to travel far - Massachusetts has no shortage of haunted attractions . From traditional haunted houses and hayrides to spooky outdoor walkthroughs with detailed backstories, there's something within driving distance for every age and level of horror fan to enjoy.

Here are seven unique haunted attractions from all across the state to try this spooky season.

Barrett's Haunted Mansion

An Abington tradition for over 30 years, Barrett's Haunted Mansion is filled with special actors and horror effects. This year's mansion is themed after the game of survival. The kidnapper, or "game master" will test those who dare to enter with elaborate, dangerous games that test the mind and body. If escaping the game master regularly seems too easy, a special event with complete darkness and physical contact is offered in Darkness Unleashed on Oct. 23.

Barrett's also offers Condemned, an outdoor attraction where guests walk through a fictional community filled with “Coulro-Sapiens” who scavenge to stay alive after a nitrogen oxide (NOx) leak at McTeel’s Industries. Condemned can be experienced regularly or with Devil's Night, a physical contact special on Oct. 30.

General admission tickets cost $40 and include both regular attractions. Darkness Unleashed costs $36 per person, and Devil's Night costs $40.

When: Barrett's Haunted Mansion is open from 7-11 p.m. on Oct. 25-26 or 7-10:30 p.m. on Oct. 24, Oct. 27, Oct. 31 and Nov. 1-2. Darkness Unleashed is on Oct. 23 from 7-10:30 p.m., and Devil's Night is Oct. 30 from 7-10:30 p.m.
