With about a week left before Halloween, now is the perfect time to
squeeze in a haunted attraction to get in the holiday spirit. However, you don't need to go far - Vermont has plenty of thrilling attractions across the state. Whether a traditional haunted house, a
spooky corn maze or a Halloween live show, the state has something within driving distance for every age and level of horror fan to enjoy. Here are four unique haunted attractions in Vermont to try this spooky season.
Nightmare Vermont
Located just outside of Burlington at Champlain Valley Exposition,
Nightmare Vermont is an immersive haunted house complete with live theater, stage combat, spooky special effects and interactive scares.

The charity show has been improving their scare factor since the debut in 2004, and the website promises that this year's 20th anniversary will be the scariest show yet. If you attend the final show, watch out - ponchos are recommended to shield from the excessive blood.
Tickets cost $18, and Nightmare Vermont recommends purchasing at least a week in advance. Profits go toward local charities such as
Green Mountain Habitat for Humanity and
Camp Exclamation Point .
When: Nightmare Vermont's final show weekend is Oct. 24-26. Time slots to enter the show are between 7-10 p.m. on Oct. 24, 7-11 p.m. on Oct. 25 and 6 p.m.-12:30 a.m. on Oct. 26.
Vengeance in the Valley
Vengeance in the Valley is the Halloween attraction of Gaines Farm, one of the oldest family farms in New England. This attraction is made up of two main events - a haunted hayride through fields with souls seeking revenge and "the devil's torture chamber," a corn maze with the undead peeking out of corn stalks at every corner. Hayride tickets cost $16, corn maze tickets cost $14 and combination tickets for both attractions cost $26. All purchases must be made in person at the ticket booth.
When: The maze and hayride are open from 6:30-10 p.m. every Friday and Saturday in October, ending Oct. 26.
Pittsford Haunted House
Caverly Preventorium, an old children's hospital on a dirt road, makes the perfect setting for this haunted house. After riding deep into the woods on a wagon, guests make their way through a dozen rooms and winding hallways themed after iconic Halloween movies and decorations. Admission to the house cost $15 for adults or $5 for children, and tickets can only be paid at the gate in cash.
When: Pittsford Haunted House is only open Oct. 18-19 and Oct. 25-26. Tickets are sold from 6-9 p.m.
