Now classified as a Tropical Storm, Michael is forecasted to bring heavy rain to the D.C. area on Thursday afternoon and evening, followed by blustery winds on Friday.
Residents of the greater Washington, D.C., area could see up to 4 inches of rain in some areas on Thursday, though 1 to 2 inches of rain is more likely.
Farther south in Virginia, closer to the storm's direct path, between 4 and 6 inches of rain is possible, with potentially 10 inches in some places. Of course, with rainfall like that, flash flooding is to be expected near overflooded waterways. Parts of southwest Virginia are already under a flash flood warning, due to heavy rains that began yesterday.
Up in Maryland, some counties have already declared a flash flood watch starting at 2 p.m. Thursday. They include Baltimore, Prince George’s, Anne Arundel and Harford counties.
By Friday, most of the rain will have cleared for the entire area, though chilly winds should be expected as a cold front moves through.
