Its been a soggy Memorial Day weekend and the rain is forecast to hang around this week.

Here’s a look at how much rain has fallen in Wichita and south-central Kansas, according to the National Weather Service.

From Saturday to Monday afternoon, the Wichita Dwight D. Eisenhower National Airport recorded 3.64 inches of rain, NWS Wichita meteorologist William Iwasko said.

Valley Center received the most rainfall at 6.67 inches. Park City saw 5.98, Haysville at 5.13, Goddard at 4.75.

Areas south and southeast of Wichita also saw rain. Arkansas City saw 4.70 and Coffeyville saw 4.72 inches of rainfall during a three-day period.

More precipitation is expected Monday night into Tuesday, but the heaviest rain is over. Iwasko said these rainfall amounts are not abnormal for this time of year.

“We’ll have some drizzle and some showers overnight again tonight, but it should even lighter,” Iwasko said in a phone call. “Right now what we’re thinking is maybe a tenth of an inch or more.”

The rainfall helped raise the water level at the Cheney Reservoir, adding roughly 6 inches since Saturday. The current elevation at the reservoir is 1,414 feet, about 59% full, Iwasko said.

To be considered full, the water elevation has to be at 1,421 feet. The Monday overnight rain is expected to raise it a couple inches.

Monday night is expected drop to 56 degrees, with a 50% chance of showers before 4 a.m. Tuesday is looking at a mostly cloudy high of 68 and low of 54. There is a 20% chance of rain before 10 a.m., an NWS detailed forecast shows.

Wednesday is forecast at a 20% chance of rain during the day, and increases to 60% at night. Thursday’s chance for rain is 40%.
