Teenager shot and killed Wednesday in Columbia was 'loving' and a 'bright soul'



An 18-year-old girl shot and killed early Wednesday morning was a "wonderful friend" and "bright soul," according to a friend who knew and loved her.

Kaidynce Payne was pronounced dead at the scene of a shooting in the 3200 block of Clark Lane, just east of U.S. 63, according to the Columbia Police Department. CPD responded to the scene about 1 a.m. The parking lot area includes a KFC, McDonald's and Super 8 hotel.

Kaidynce Payne was part of a close-knit friend group that included Jearlissia Jackson. Jackson remembers Payne as "loving" and "down-to-earth," a big fan of R&B music and strong emotional support to friends in need.

COU flight cancelations extend to Wednesday following equipment malfunction



All arrivals and departures out of the Columbia Regional Airport on Wednesday were canceled, marking the second day in a row that flights have been canceled out of the airport.

On Tuesday, an American Airlines flight from Dallas-Fort Worth to COU was diverted back to Dallas after a deicing truck at the Columbia airport reportedly malfunctioned. No flights have arrived or departed at the airport since the incident.

Douglass Park court name change on hold following community feedback



The city of Columbia has paused the decision to rename a basketball court at Douglass Park following an outcry from the community.

Renovations to the park on Providence Road were set to begin last week, and an announcement from Columbia Parks and Recreation was met with opposition.

The renovations include relocating the new small park shelter, putting in new goals, adding LED lighting — and custom sport court surfacing to honor the late Mizzou women's basketball coach Willie Cox.

Missouri Task Force 1 relocates on deployment in Kentucky



Missouri Task Force 1 has been relocated to Prestonsburg, Kentucky, in response to a storm that brought heavy rain and strong winds. The storm has already resulted in over a dozen casualties.

The deployment follows a request from the Federal Emergency Management Agency, or FEMA, which sent the task force to Louisville, Kentucky, on Sunday.
