Who says cherry blossoms get to steal the spring spotlight? There are plenty of stunning floral displays that bloom in Maryland in the springtime!

While the annual Cherry Blossom Festival is undeniably breathtaking, there are many spring flowers that often get overlooked during all the festivities. Hopefully, after getting your fill of the cherry blossoms, you’ll be inspired to learn more about the other plant life blooming around in your very own backyard. Starting with these horticultural hotspots:

Brookside Gardens

With 50 acres of award-winning garden displays, there’s an exhibit to match everyone’s horticultural needs, including a rose garden, butterfly garden, azalea garden, and two Conservatories open year-round. Find out when your favorite spring flowers will be in bloom and start planning your trip!

Sherwood Gardens

Every year, approximately 80,000 tulip bulbs are planted alongside an array of other popular spring wildflowers, including magnolias, azaleas, and dogwoods. As soon as this pesky winter decides to rest, all six acres of the property will be flush with your favorite spring foliage! The peak viewing period usually falls around the end of April, so there’s still plenty of time to research your favorite blossoms and plan a trip. Some plants were collected from various colonial estates across Southern Maryland, dating back as far as the 18th century!

Soleado Lavender Farm

[caption id="attachment_8381" align="aligncenter" width="1024"]spring Courtesy of soleadolavender.com[/caption] You’ll be up to your nostrils in one of the most popular scents after taking a trip to the Soleado Lavender Farm this spring! A wide variety of French and English lavender is grown here to be distilled into essential oil and used as an ingredient in all of the estate’s handmade bath products. And while the idea of bees usually makes us instinctively start swatting, you’ll notice at Soleado how bees find a whiff of lavender just as calming as we do. You’ll be happy you visited on a day with a few bees when you get your very first taste of sweet lavender honey! What are your favorite flowers to see blooming during the spring?
