SPRINGFIELD — In the annual celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., speakers called for action — not symbolic gestures — to bring economic justice, good schools and political fairness to everyone.

The event, touted as the largest tribute to the civil rights leader statewide, drew a capacity crowd to the MassMutual Center on Monday. It was celebrated with a visit from Gov. Maura Healey, a variety of speakers and performances including one from the Community Music School’s bucket drummers, who entertained the crowd by drumming on some 800 orange plastic pails.
