Prince George's County native Kevin Durant has made a large donation to help underprivileged kids get into college.
Golden State Warriors star Kevin Durant is giving back to his home community in the form of a generous monetary donation. The small forward just recently revealed that he will donate a $10 million sum, which will be used to establish D.C.’s first College Track Program to be housed in the player’s hometown of Seat Pleasant, just outside of the District in PG County. Durant grew up and lived in PG County before becoming an eight-time NBA All-Star and the winner of four scoring titles, two Olympic gold medals, an MVP, and finals MVP award. Not mention that he and his team are some of the best players in the entire league. While kiddos may look up to Durant on the court, the College Track Program will help students off the court by giving them the resources and tools they need to help them get into college. College Track will offer tutoring and test preparation as well as finding the right financial aid and school.
This isn't the first time Durant has given back to the community either. In 2013, he donated $1 million to the Red Cross to help victims of a deadly tornado near the home of his former team, the Oklahoma City Thunder. He has also served as the spokesperson for a D.C. branch of a national after-school music program and donated $60,000 for new basketball courts at Seat Pleasant’s Activity Center last year.
College Track is a nationwide program with 20 locations. The 10-year program assists students in low-income communities in their efforts to attend four-year colleges and earn a degree.
