With more than 600 communities to choose from, Kansas offers more than enough space for new and current residents to reside and relocate if they wanted to.

Niche ranks on several several key factors of a location, including the quality of local schools, crime rates, housing trends, employment statistics and access to amenities in an attempt to measure the overall quality of an area, its website said.

Statistics provided are mostly obtained from the U.S. Census and represent its data, the website said. Statistics also come from Tax Foundation, Bureau of Labor Statistics and others.

Why is Overland Park ranked the best city to live in?



Overland Park ranked in the top spot with a A+ overall ranking.

The ranking included high scores in being good for families, public schools, nightlife, diversity, housing, crime and safety, and more.

Living in Overland Park offers residents a dense suburban feel, and most residents own their homes. In Overland Park, there are a lot of restaurants, coffee shops, and parks, said Niche.

What made the Capital City earn the fourth spot?



The capital city fell short of the top three but still earned above average ratings for its public schools, housing, jobs, cost of living, weather and more.

Crime in the capital city earned the lowest grade. Based on a poll of 64 responses, 47% participants said they feel "pretty safe, there are some general concerns but generally feel safe."

Diversity earned the highest grade, which was based on ethnic and economic diversity. Based on a poll of 48 responses, 54% of residents said there is a good sense of community in the city.

Niche said Topeka offers residents a "dense suburban" feel with many coffee shops and parks.

"Many families and young professionals live in Topeka and residents tend to have moderate political views," the site said.

Topeka was also ranked for the 141st spot for best cities to live in America and the 24th best city to buy a house in America by Niche.
