UDFA QB Seth Henigan wasn't initially on Liam Coen's radar. So how did he end up with the Jacksonville Jaguars?
Memphis quarterback Seth Henigan, who the
Jacksonville Jaguars signed as an undrafted rookie, wasn't initially on Liam Coen's radar. However, a text from former NFL head coach and media personality with Barstool Sports, Jon Gruden, changed that. “I’ll be honest, hadn’t watched a ton of his tape before we ended up bringing him in," Coen said after Saturday's practice
via Big Cat Country. "Once we did, I got to talk to him. Jon Gruden actually hit me up about him. Shot me a text, I think they spent some time together during the offseason." Henigan was featured on 'Gruden's QB Class' earlier this offseason. Henigan is an experienced quarterback, with over 2,000 dropbacks during his four seasons at Memphis. For his career, he has completed 64% of his passes at 7.9 yards per attempt with 104 touchdowns to 31 interceptions. In 2024 specifically, Henigan has the 12th-lowest turnover-worthy play rate among quarterbacks,
according to PFF , and he had the sixth-highest big-time throw rate as well. You can definitely see the coach’s kid mentality," Coen added. "He did a great job of calling the plays and having the command. We weren’t just out there calling one play. We were canning plays, two play calls, he was handling all that stuff well. So, time will tell, but definitely a good guy to start off with.” Henigan will be competing with John Wolford for the third quarterback role on the
Jaguars ' depth chart, whether that comes on the 53-man or the practice squad, depending on how many quarterbacks Coen wants to keep on the active roster.
