WICHITA FALLS, Texas (KAUZ) - Across the nation on May 14, Americans protested Donald Trump and his administration’s actions since taking office in January. The protests were called ‘No Kings Day’ and around 320 people in Wichita Falls gathered peacefully to show their signs, listen to guest speakers and come together in solidarity. Chris Crayton was one of the hundreds who showed up for the demonstration. Crayton’s reason for coming was his support of peace and the Constitution. “When the phrase ‘protestors will be met with heavy force.’ That’s concerning to me because it’s a violation of the First Amendment and the Constitution. Don’t get me wrong, rioters should be met with heavy force, but when they say protestors should be, that’s anti-constitutional, plain and simple,” Crayton said. Crayton offered this advice to anyone who might be thinking about going to a protest, but might be nervous about attending. “I would tell them that remember this is your right, and remember Dr. Martin Luther King’s philosophy of non-violent resistance. He was one of the most influential civil rights leaders of our country, and he did it through non-violent means,” Crayton said. Organizers of today’s local protest stressed that everything was peaceful and they’re thankful for all who made time today to use their First Amendment rights.
