CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) — The Charleston Police Department (CPD) has released the affidavit for the man charged with killing two young women in a hit-and-run Sunday morning.

Max David Gentilin, 25, of Charleston is charged with two counts of leaving the scene of an accident causing death in connection with the deaths of Arianna Gramber and Lizzy Zito, both 20 years old and of Springfield. He was booked at the Sheriff Al Cannon Detention Center on May 1.

Gentilin was granted bond in the amount of $300,000 and released on May 2, according to jail records.

According to the CPD, the hit-and-run occurred around 1:43 a.m. on Morrison Drive, near the on-ramp to the Ravenel Bridge. At approximately 8:30 a.m., officers were notified of two deceased victims The victims were identified as Gramber and Zito. Vehicle debris was found near the scene.

Police say the vehicle was traveling north on Morrison Drive when it veered off the right side of the road, striking Gramber and Zito. The vehicle hit and traveled onto the curb, which had thick brush and foliage, running over the victims in the process. It continued traveling on the raised area along the curb for several feet before re-entering the roadway. Gramber and Zito were found amongst the foliage with "traumatic injuries".

The officers were able to identify the vehicle's model from debris found at the scene. They determined the vehicle suffered a flat tire during the incident, likely from striking the curb, according to the CPD.

Police say they observed tire markings at the scene, which led to a nearby apartment complex on Morrison Drive. They followed the tire markings to a vehicle parked in front of the apartments. The vehicle matched the model of the debris found at the scene and had damage consistent with the collision, including a flat tire and leaves/twigs on its interior and exterior. Hair and blood were also found along the vehicle's underbody.

The vehicle was registered to Gentilin's parents, but Gentilin's father told officers that his son was the driver of the vehicle.

Hours after the collision, Gentilin arrived at his workplace. Co-workers described Gentilin's behavior as "abnormal and out of character" and told officers that he was in a "panicked state". Gentilin was also heard saying, "I crashed my car last night and the police are calling me. I need to go handle this. I f---ed up. I f---ed up." He then left work an hour and a half before the scheduled end of his shift.

Video footage showed Gentilin's vehicle park in the spot where it was located about a minute after the collision, according to the CPD. Gentilin was seen exiting the vehicle and inspecting the damage. He was also heard saying, "What am I supposed to do?"

Immediately after the collision, according to the CPD, Gentilin told a friend that he struck a tree by the bridge.

Police say the incident remains under investigation and more charges are expected.
