CHICAGO — Ramp closures on the outbound Kennedy Expressway, from the Edens Expressway to the Ohio Street junction, have been pushed back again. The closures will also be extended by a week, and there will be more ramp closures than previously announced, according to the latest update from the Illinois Department of Transportation. IDOT says the closures, part of the ongoing Kennedy Expressway rehabilitation project, will now begin on Tuesday, May 27. The closures were previously scheduled to start this week, on Monday, May 19, before IDOT announced they had been pushed back a couple days , to Wednesday, May 21. Now, they’ve been pushed back to next week, weather permitting. In addition to pushing the closures back, IDOT says additional ramp closures have been added, plus now they’ll be closed for two weeks instead of one, as previously announced. IDOT urges motorists to follow the posted detours. As a reminder, the reversible express lanes on the Kennedy will remain open in the outbound direction, with two mainline outbound lanes closed at a time. During the first stage, the reversible-lane drivers going to I-90 or O’Hare International Airport from downtown Chicago must stay on the mainline Kennedy and not the express lanes. This configuration is expected to remain in place until mid-July, according to IDOT. For more information, visit idot.illinois.gov .
