IKEA and LEGO have teamed up to create a series of storage boxes that double as a play space.

Furniture giant IKEA and beloved toy manufacture LEGO have partnered together to bring us one of the best storage bin concepts we have ever seen.

The new collection features storage bins that double as a play surface with studded lids and insides that are compatible with past, present, and future LEGO products. The boxes also stack up together and can be used as play components themselves.

The Bygglek (pronounced "boog-lee-eck") box series will be available for retail purchase on October 1.

The team also worked with a child psychologist to understand the prices of playing and creativity, realizing that children do not look at a pile of LEGO bricks on the floor as a mess.  The new boxes become a part of playtime, as well as a functional way to store them when it's time to clean up.

The Bygglek box series has four different products :

  • Bygglek Box with lid (large): $14.99
  • Bygglek Box with lid (smaller): $12.99
  • Bygglek Boxes with lids (set of 3): $9.99
  • Bygglek 201-piece Lego brick set: $14.99

The LEGO brick set does not come with any instructions and has a deliberately chosen set of blocks in it, with less complex elements, so that even the youngest children can play creatively and enjoy them.

“At IKEA, we always believe in the power of play. Play lets us explore, experiment, dream and discover.” said Fredriksson. “Where adults often see mess, children see a stimulating creative environment, and BYGGLEK will help bridge the gap between these two views to ensure more creative play in homes around the world. Plus, the BYGGLEK collection matches perfectly with other IKEA products, making it possible to have your children’s creativity becoming a nice and unique piece of decoration at home.”
