Despite a couple NCAA tournament losses, there’s still some college hoops in Urbana-Champaign.

This week, the State Farm Center is playing host to the 47th Annual National Intercollegiate Wheelchair Basketball Tournament for men's and women's.

And Illinois is looking for its first national title in 15 years.

“This is where wheelchair basketball started, especially collegiate wheelchair basketball. It started here in Champaign with Dr. Nugent back in the late 1940s," said Stephanie Wheeler, Illini women's head coach.

She added, "So anytime we get the opportunity to host a national championship tournament here, we see it as just a huge celebration of our sport.”

A championship series that spans throughout four days and 17 programs. Capping off a season of 30-plus games, which includes many nights away from campus.

“We can definitely hang with any team in the league. We can go and add national championship, and we can get our banner hanging up," said Illini men's head coach Jacob Tyree. "Every day I get to leave my office and I see 2010 as the last one. Michael Fogley, who's actually down here, was my former coach."

Coach Fogley or just Frog?

"Steph just called me Frog," Frogley told me.

"Frog" never forgot how inspiring winning the national title was.

He added, "There's almost a belief that starts to come in, and where they're almost thinking, 'Man, if I can do this, what else can I do if I work at it?'"

"And that's an unbelievably gratifying moment," said Frogley.

We wish the best of luck to both programs. You click here to see how you can attend the free event.
