The Illinois State Police Division of Criminal Major Crimes Unit Zone 6 has arrested Donovan Davis, a 27-year-old from St. Charles, Missouri, on charges of Unlawful Use of a Weapon and First-Degree Murder. The charges stem from a May 12, 2025, incident in the 2200 block of Kingshighway, where Davis allegedly shot and killed 26-year-old Mark Morris Jr. of St. Louis, Missouri. An off-duty Washington Park Police Department officer, who was working as armed security, intervened and shot Davis, stopping the threat. Morris Jr. was pronounced dead at the scene, while Davis was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The Illinois State Police and Washington Park Police Department conducted a joint investigation. On May 22, 2025, the case was presented to St. Clair County State’s Attorney James Gomric, who filed the charges against Davis. Davis is currently held at the St. Clair County Jail. No further information is available at this time.
