ADRIAN TWP. — An Illinois man died Tuesday morning following a crash along M-52 between Adrian and Tecumseh that knocked down power lines north of Shepherd Road. The 64-year-old man may have been experiencing a medical emergency at the time the pickup he was driving went off M-52 in Adrian Township, the Lenawee County Sheriff's Office reported. Deputies were dispatched to the crash at 3:27 a.m., according to a news release. Their investigation showed the Illinois man was southbound on M-52 when the pickup gradually drove off the roadway and into the ditch while continuing southbound. The pickup struck two private driveways and hit a power pole, knocking down power lines across M-52. The second vehicle involved in the crash, a Freightliner commercial truck, also was traveling southbound on M-52, the release said. The truck came through the area and struck the low-hanging power lines from the utility pole being knocked down. The driver of the Freightliner , a 33-year-old man from Adrian, was not injured. The pickup's driver was transported to the nearby ProMedica Hickman Hospital emergency department and was pronounced dead a short time later, the sheriff's office said. The two vehicles involved in this incident never collided with each other, the release said. There were no passengers in either vehicle. Alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the crash, and both drivers were wearing their seatbelts. The sheriff's office did not release the names of the drivers. The Tecumseh Police Department, Adrian Township and Raisin Township fire departments, Lenawee Community Ambulance, Lenawee County Medical Examiner’s Office and members of the Lenawee County Accident Investigation Team assisted the sheriff's office with this incident.
