(WLUK) -- Opening day of gun deer season is only 10 days away, meaning now is the time for hunters and non-hunters alike to brush up on important safety reminders. Hunters must follow all hunting regulations and only take aim during legal shooting hours. The DNR requires that at least 50% of the clothing above each hunter's waist and head coverings must be blaze orange or blaze pink any time there is a firearm deer season in progress. It's a good idea for the non-hunting public and their pets to wear to wear blaze orange or fluorescent pink during the gun deer season too, if they plan to recreate on public land that allows for hunting. Additionally, anyone born on or after Jan. 1, 1973, must have a hunter education certification to purchase a hunting license, unless hunting under the Mentored Hunting Law. for more information.
