Parts of Mid-Missouri will deal with a noisy night as storms are expected to develop across southern and southwest Missouri this evening and push north of I-44 after midnight. Scattered storms will blossom ahead of a cold front as warmer, strong low level winds will send moisture into the region after sunset. The environment will have enough wind shear for some of those storms to produce small to quarter size hail, and a zone of up to 1" of rain near or along the I-70 corridor through mid-late morning Sunday. The Storm Prediction Center has a large portion of Mid-Missouri in a level 1 out of 5 severe risk for the potential of hail up to the size of quarters. Along with brief heavy rain and hail, storms could also produce frequent lightning. Wind gusts overnight could reach 35-40 mph with storms. As storms develop, they'll drift into our southern counties near the Lake of the Ozarks and along I-44 between 11:00 p.m. and 1:00 a.m. Locations along and south of the Missouri River can expect storms to move in between midnight and 2:00 a.m., and points along and north of I-70 after 2:00 a.m. Storms are expected to move east-northeast by late morning or midday Sunday. We'll be left breezy and cooler on Sunday as clouds are slow to exit with highs in the lower 60s.
