JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) - A Jackson State football assistant coach is headed to the NFL following a historic season for the Tigers.

On Wednesday, JSU linebackers coach and former NFL player Chris Orr announced that he will be the Kansas City Chiefs as a quality control coach.

Orr played a major role in rejuvenizing the Jackson State linebackers room that saw LB Reid Pulliam lead the team in tackles with 65. He also tallied seven tackles for loss and 3.5 sacks last season for the SWAC Championship and Celebration Bowl-winning squad.

The former Carolina Panther leaves the capital city after just one season at Jackson State. Defensive line coach Kali James left Jackson State as well after one season, becoming the defensive tackles coach at Western Kentucky.

The Tigers begin the 2025 season by hosting Hampton at the Mississippi Veterans Memorial Stadium on August 30.
