The National Weather Service in Jacksonville released a forecast for the upcoming week that promises a mix of sunny skies and potential thunderstorms for residents in the area. In a report early this morning, meteorologists are predicting a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms later today, particularly between 4pm and 5pm. Before the potential rain, commuters might contend with patchy dense fog, set to clear before 9am. After the fog lifs, the outlook is mostly sunny with a high near 85 degrees, accompanied by a southwest wind traveling at 7 to 11 mph and could see gusts as high as 17 mph, as detailed by the National Weather Service .

Tonight's weather leans towards mostly clear skies with the low hovering around 67 degrees. Winds are expected to blow from the southwest at around 9 to 13 mph, with gusts that may reach up to 20 mph. Looking forward to Wednesday, the forecast suggests clear, sunny conditions with highs approaching 90 degrees. Winds will shift just a bit, coming from the west at 6 to 8 mph. For those planning a little further ahead, Thursday calls for more sun with highs potentially reaching a hot 94 degrees.

The calm conditions, however, come with an advisory for those looking to cool off at the beach. The NWS has issued a high rip current risk warning effective through late tonight for several regions including Coastal Nassau, Coastal Duval, Coastal Flagler, Northeast Coastal St. Johns, and Southeast Coastal St. Johns. "Dangerous rip currents" are expected, and beachgoers are urged to take precautions. The NWS warns that rip currents can sweep "even the best swimmers away from shore into deeper water."

The local community is advised to swim near a lifeguard and to follow safety instructions regarding rip currents. For those caught in a rip current , the recommended course of action is to "relax and float" without swimming against the current. If possible, swim parallel to the shoreline and if unable to escape, signal to the shore for assistance.
