An investigation is underway in Jacksonville after a man was arrested for violating a protection order and possessing firearms and explosives.

Jacksonville Police say 37-year-old Austin Health Church of Anniston is charged with violation of Protection Order, certain person forbidden to possess firearms, unlawful possession of a controlled substance, unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia, and two counts of unlawful possession of a short-barreled rifle.

According to a release by Jacksonville PD, on Saturday, February 8, they received a call from a woman who suspected she was being followed by Church, who she had a Protection from Abuse order against.

With the information provided, officers managed to locate Church and conducted a traffic stop on him.

Officers searched the Church's vehicle, finding multiple rifles and pistols, firearm magazines, a bulletproof vest, and a bullet-restrained helmet. One of the pistols contained a glock switch, a device that can be attached to a Glock handgun to convert it from a semi-automatic to a fully automatic weapon. Officers also recovered what appeared to be altered commercial-grade explosives.

Following the discovery, Gadsden Police and the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency bomb squad responded to the scene to render safe the explosive devices.

At this time, Jacksonville Police says Church is in custody and the investigation remains active.

Police say the situation is believed to be contained and does not pose a threat to the community.

We will continue to provide updates as they become available.
