Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence shot down a trade rumor that made the rounds last week about the Pittsburgh Steelers looking to deal for him. Lawrence made it clear on Monday’s “Up & Adams” show that he has no interest in leaving Jacksonville.

“I didn’t really see anything. My agent texted me and then of course I saw it after he texted and ‘said this is a report that is out there. I don’t think there is anything to it but I’ll check into it,'” Lawrence said. “It’s funny when he sent it to me, I wouldn’t say your heart drops but you are kind of like, what?

“I have a no-trade clause in my contract, so I would know about it if I was getting traded or if that was something that was going to happen. I would have to be on board with it, which I’m not. I’m happy here in Jacksonville. We want to win a Super Bowl here and I think we can do that. I don’t want to leave Jacksonville, so I’m happy here. Not going to Pittsburgh.”

Lawrence said his agent reached out to ESPN’s Adam Schefter to see what he had heard. Liam Coen, who was hired last month to be the Jaguars’ new head coach, reached out to tell him there was nothing to that rumor from Jacksonville’s end.

“Liam texted me the day after it came out and said, ‘I shouldn’t have to even say this but it’s not coming from us.’ I was like, ‘yeah, I figured.’ We’re all good.’ He didn’t have to even send that. There was no doubt on my side.”

Last June, Lawrence inked a five-year extension. In four seasons with the Jaguars, he has thrown for 13,815 passing yards, 69 touchdowns, 46 interceptions and was a Pro Bowler in 2022. He missed seven games last season due to a shoulder injury and later a concussion. Lawrence said he got out of the sling three weeks ago but still has a bit more work to do to build some strength in the shoulder.

The 25-year-old signal-caller is excited about what the future holds with Coen, who comes to the Jaguars after calling the plays with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers during Baker Mayfield’s best season to date. Coen will be Lawrence’s third head coach in five seasons.

“I talked to him on the phone — just his energy I could hear it immediately,” Lawrence said of his new coach. “We’ve spent some more extended time together now. He’s passionate. He has this drive to win, to have success. Obviously, this is his first head coaching gig and he has a lot to prove. To see what he has done in his past as a play caller with a lot of different quarterbacks and different types of quarterbacks at college and the NFL level and what he did with the Bucs last year.

“I’m really excited just from a football perspective of the scheme, the offense we are going to run, how he sets everything up, and the run game. I’m just really excited for that, but then the leader, the energy. He’s a younger guy. I think just the juice he is going to bring into the building and the staff he hired. It’s a good mix.”

Jacksonville remains without a general manager — Ethan Waugh is serving as the interim GM — but are conducting its final round of interviews with five candidates this week. The team has announced that the finalists are Ian Cunningham (Chicago Bears assistant GM), James Gladstone (Los Angeles Rams director of scouting strategy), Jon-Eric Sullivan (Green Bay Packers vice president of player personnel), Waugh and Josh Williams (San Francisco 49ers director/scouting and football operations).
