An Achilles injury in a celebrity basketball game forced him to vacate the belt before his return at UFC 300 in April, where he suffered a knockout loss to Alex Pereira. Hill returned in January but was stopped via TKO by Jiri Prochazka. Rountree (13-6 MMA, 9-6 UFC) stepped in as a heavy underdog against Pereira at UFC 307 in August. Despite the odds, he delivered a competitive performance in a gruelling contest, ultimately losing via fourth-round stoppage. His effort earned widespread respect within the sport.
