Republican vice presidential nominee JD Vance returned to the battleground state of North Carolina with a visit to Charlotte. Vance visited Charlotte on Monday for events with supporters. During his first event, he spoke to a group of supporters at Central Piedmont Community College. During the first few moments of his remarks, he emphasized the importance of North Carolina in the election. “North Carolina is a second home to me,” Vance said. “It is going to be the state that turns this country red.” The senator from Ohio focused on the economy, immigration and Kamala Harris during his remarks. Vance said Harris has not been clear on her positions and called on her to do more interviews with the press. “I think Kamala Harris should do some interviews is because the American people deserve it,” he said. “But part of the reason I want Kamala Harris to do some interviews is because every time she opens her mouth, I think Donald Trump and I gain about 100,000 votes.” Vance also spoke about the economy.

He tied the high cost of housing to illegal immigration into the United States. “You know how hard it is to afford to provide housing and health care for your citizens when Kamala Harris lets in millions upon millions of people who shouldn't even be here,” Vance said. Beyond housing, Vance also tied immigration to the opioid crisis. “We say to Kamala Harris, to every illegal alien, to every person who has contributed to this border crisis, we need a president that's going to go to war with the Mexican drug cartels, not invite them to do business in this country,” he said. Vance also called Harris a “bad person,” claiming she believes people who want stricter border policies are racist. Vance wrapped up his remarks by taking questions from reporters. He was asked several times if he would continue to support Republican gubernatorial candidate Mark Robinson. This comes after Thursday’s CNN report, which alleges Robinson made racial and sexually explicit comments on a pornographic website more than a decade ago. “What he said or didn't say is ultimately between him and the people of North Carolina. The people of North Carolina are going to make that decision,” Vance said. “Now, look, I've seen some of the statements. I haven't seen them all. Some of them are pretty gross, to put it mildly. Mark Robinson says that those statements are false, that he didn't actually speak them. So I think it's up to Mark Robinson, his case to the people of North Carolina.” Vance also spoke at a Believers and Ballots Coalition event in Charlotte Monday evening.
