Paramount+ is set to begin production on a limited TV series on the unsolved murder of Colorado's JonBenét Ramsey in 1996. This unsolved case has captivated the country for decades, and it's about to get some new light with the release of the series.
The Paramount+ series, which has a working title of JonBenét Ramsey, will be eight episodes long. Melissa McCarthy and Clive Owen will play the roles of Ramsey's parents, Patsy and John.
JonBenét went missing the day after Christmas, only to be found strangled to death in her Boulder home. Following her death, her parents were considered as potential suspects by police, along with her 9-year-old brother. It took years for the police to clear their names. And today, 27 years later, the investigation continues.
According to a Paramount+ press release, the series will "follow the Ramsey family, before and after the tragedy as they go through the painful loss of a child while facing intense public scrutiny caused by a media frenzy that caused this case to captivate an entire nation."
Paramount Global Co-CEO Chris McCarthy said Ramsey's death cast a "long, haunting shadow over American culture for nearly three decades." He said the series will "illuminate her story with ... acuity and nuance."
Richard LaGravenese will be the showrunner and executive producer of the series. Anne Sewitsky will also be an executive director and will direct four of the eight episodes.
