Joseph Nocella, Jr. has officially taken on the role of Interim United States Attorney for the Eastern District of New York. He was sworn in during a ceremony led by Chief District Judge Margo K. Brodie yesterday. Nocella’s tenure will last 120 days or until a new presidential appointment is confirmed by the Senate, whichever comes first. The U.S. Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of New York provided details of the ceremony, with Nocella expressing gratitude for the opportunity to serve. "I am deeply honored that President Donald J. Trump and Attorney General Pamela Bondi have appointed me United States Attorney for the Eastern District of New York. It is especially gratifying to return to the very District where I began my prosecutorial career," Nocella told the U.S. Attorney's Office . Known for its high-profile prosecutions, the district covers a wide jurisdiction that includes Nassau, Suffolk, Kings, Queens, and Richmond Counties. Taking charge, Nocella plans to vigorously address a wide range of crimes, from narcotics offenses to terrorism. Before assuming the role of Interim U.S. Attorney, Nocella's career included various positions in public service. He served as a Nassau County Family Court Judge and a Nassau County District Judge. Nocella began his legal career as a clerk for United States District Judge Lawrence M. McKenna and later worked as an Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District from 1991 to 1995, where he was involved in prosecuting organized crime and other offenses. Following this, he worked in private practice while holding legal positions within Long Island's governmental framework. Joseph Nocella, Jr. has extensive experience in the legal field, with strong connections to the Eastern District. He holds degrees from Fordham University and Columbia University School of Law. In his statement to the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of New York, Nocella acknowledged the contributions and leadership of his predecessor, Acting United States Attorney John J. Durham. Nocella is expected to continue the district's efforts in addressing crime and upholding justice.
