The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have their work cut out for them this season in at least one major way as the organization has a new offensive play-caller running the show for the third consecutive year. Over the last two seasons, Tampa Bay's success on that side of the ball helped Liam Coen and Dave Canales get head coaching jobs around the league. Now, the team has promoted passing game coordinator Josh Grizzard to play-calling duties. It threatens to be a thankless job. After two straight years of elite numbers on offense, Grizzard is expected to not miss a beat despite this being the first time he's calling plays at the NFL level. The good news for Grizzard and the Buccaneers is that some of the team's best offensive players have spoken out in favor of him. During mandatory minicamp practice this week, Pro Bowl wide receiver Mike Evans was the latest star to defend the promotion. "Josh – Coach 'Grizz' is… Last year, we talked a lot, but he didn't talk as much in groups, and he does a really great job of talking in front of everybody," Evans said. "We didn't get to see that last year, but he's a really great coach, and I look forward to having a great season for him." Getting Evans on board is a good start for Grizzard. At the end of the day, though, he isn't the player who will directly contribute to the success of the offense. If starting quarterback Baker Mayfield performs at a high level this season, Grizzard will soon be in line for a head coaching job. If the quarterback struggles, there's a good chance Grizzard will be replaced. It's not an easy position to fill for Tampa Bay. Grizzard is ready for that challenge, though.
