ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – A judge is expected to sentence a local man convicted in November of a rape that happened over 30 years ago.

In November 1994, Gilbert Contreras beat and raped a woman jogging in the bosque. She has since passed away but her family was in the courtroom when jurors convicted him 30 years later.

In 2022, DNA from her rape kit linked Contreras to the case. After the conviction, now faces more than 70 years in prison.

His sentencing is scheduled for 1:30 p.m.
