Junction City celebrated its 30th Juneteenth Festival on Sat. June 14 with a diverse mix of music along with vendors and food, downtown in Heritage Park. Music included an early performance by the electric Topeka High Drumline. The Trojan drumline is an extracurricular activity for percussion musicians on the Trojan Band. The private ensemble kicked off their summer tour at Lawrence in the morning and Topeka in the afternoon. If you’ve never seen them before, you’ve missed a lot. Check out their touring schedule on Facebook.. They do more than 100 performances each year across Kansas. Big Mike Pugh, mixed in between Christian Jazz rapper Jordan Cortez and St. Louis Gospel performance Broken Vessel. Later he partnered with talented Gospel Keith Staten who was one of the founding members of the urban contemporary and Grammy nominated Gospel group Commission. DJ Monroe kept the music going between onstage performances. In addition, there were product and information vendors as well as food vendors offering a variety of food delicacies from meat pies to a crowd favorite smoked turkey legs.
