WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) – Fans were lined up and excited Sunday at Intrust Bank Arena for the Justin Timberlake concert, one of the last major events in downtown Wichita in 2024. This as downtown Wichita is set To Say 'Bye, Bye, Bye,' to free parking.

"I was always a 2000s girl," said concertgoer Ashton Patry outside of the arena. "My mom had me at 18. I'm currently 26 so she was always bumping to him when she was younger. And I kind of just grew up on his sound."

It's been more than 20 years since pop star Justin Timberlake performed in the Air Capitol.

Fans were excited to see the superstar, saying big shows like this are good for Wichita.

"I do think big artists coming to intrust definitely does help out Wichita," said concertgoer Chailyn Dickinson. "It brings other people from surrounding areas into Wichita and kind of downtown, and shows what Wichita and downtown Wichita has to offer."

This is likely the last major concert in Wichita before the city enacts some form of paid parking throughout downtown.

While the issue remains controversial, the concertgoers we spoke with, feel it may not be such a bad idea.

"I want to see Wichita grow as far as experience, rather than just going out and partying with your friends," Patry said. "So I do think there could be beneficial benefits to it, if, you know, if it's affordable."

Dickinson agrees and said that while she might not like the added cost, it may work in favor of the city's ability to improve downtown.

"It's a little frustrating, but I mean, everybody's got to make their dollar," Dickinson said.

The city council had planned to discuss the paid downtown parking plans again this week, but city staff have recommended putting that off until the council's December 17 meeting.
