During his introductory press conference late Thursday night, Kansas City Chiefs first-round pick Josh Simmons shared his reaction to getting the phone call from the team.

"When I got the call, I was just obviously – I felt like this was the team I was going to go to. For some reason, I still felt surprised, but nothing can get you prepared for it. I was with my agents, my family, and there are a lot of them," said Simmons, "We were originally planning on going to Green Bay just because who doesn't want to go up there and walk across the stage? There was a limited amount of people (allowed), so I couldn't ship everybody out there. My plan is, after I go visit the facility, is to go out there and kind of have a good few days of just saying what's up and seeing old faces and stuff like that."

The Chiefs selected the Ohio State offensive lineman with the 32nd pick after completing a trade with the Philadelphia Eagles. At 6 feet 5 inches tall and 310 pounds, he earned Third-Team All-Big Ten last season for the 2024 National Champions. Simmons missed significant time due to a torn patellar tendon last October, but he believes he's returning to good health.

"I'm feeling really good. I think it's more – I have to go out to see my doctor, but we are doing everything that is leading us to be ready for camp, which is squatting ready, doing a lot more sleds, hopping on the treadmill, and stuff like that." said Simmons, "Making sure we are bouncing back every time."

Simmons will be in the mix at starting left tackle going into training camp as he continues to recover from the injury.
