Two animal welfare groups in Kansas City are reporting major improvements in adoption and euthanasia rates since the start of their partnership. Kansas City, Kansas, Animal Services and the Pet Resource Center of Kansas City joined forces in 2021, with the resource center becoming the veterinary services provider for animal services. Throughout the partnership, adoptions have increased by 67%, and euthanasia rates have decreased by 59%, according to Ashley Scott, director of animal services. "It really underscores the positive impact of accessible veterinary care in saving lives and improving outcomes for shelter animals," Scott said in a press release. The two groups credit their success to a focus on spaying and neutering as well as urgent care and wellness programs. "These numbers reflect the hard work and dedication of our teams, as well as the generosity and support from our community," said Melia Washington, chief veterinarian for the resource center. "Together, we are saving lives and giving more pets the opportunity to find their forever homes." The press release says the groups remain committed to giving animals the care they deserve and improving the well-being of pets in need. For anyone who wants to help, the Pet Resource Center asks for monetary donations or supplies like water bowls, kennels, blankets and pet food. Donations can be made on the center's website here or supplies can be dropped off at 1116 E. 59th St. Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
