TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - The Kansas Department of Transportation plans to resume work next week on U.S. 24 in Shawnee and Jefferson County. According to KDOT, this phase of the project will reconstruct the 5.5 miles of eastbound U.S. 24 from approximately Goldwater Rd. to Muddy Creek. Feb. 24 to March 7: Intermittent lane reductions will occur along westbound U.S. 24 from Clark Road near Grantville to Goldwater Road while temporary barriers and traffic control are placed through the corridor. Once complete, both directions of U.S. 24 will be temporarily restricted to their outside lanes. On or around March 7, the eastbound lanes of U.S. 24 from south Meriden Road to Clark Road will close. Both directions will then utilize the westbound lanes in a single-lane, head-to-head configuration. This configuration will be in place until December. During this time, there will be no U.S. 24 access to/from local roads connecting from the south. The northern connecting roads will have access to/from westbound U.S. 24 only. (NOTE: Wilson Road/KOA Road will have no turning restrictions.) Motorists can follow the designated detour routes or use alternate routes that are not marked. Traffic will be controlled using signs, channelizers, barricades and temporary pavement markings. Drivers should plan for delays and allow for extra travel time. More information about the U.S. 24 reconstruction and improvements project can be found on the project website HERE . KDOT urges motorists to stay alert and follow posted signs in all work zones.
