LEXINGTON, Ky. (WCHS) — The next session of the Kentucky General Assembly is slated for early next year and some lawmakers are getting a head start on reviewing key issues. Monday, the Kentucky Chamber of Commerce hosted a legislative preview conference in Lexington. Next year’s session may hold good news for Kentucky taxpayers. “Ideally, when we go back in January, we will vote to lower the income tax rate again by another 1/2%,” Senate Budget Committee Chair Chris McDaniel said. Budget is a top priority for the Chamber of Commerce, but other issues such as child care and Kentucky’s work force also tie in to the economy. “We are excited to see them come to town and reduce the personal income tax,” commerce vice president Kate Shanks told Eyewitness news. “What we see are states with no or a low personal income tax are outgrowing states that have one. It has become a very important competitiveness issue from an economic development standpoint, but also, Kentucky’s economy is growing and you are seeing more revenues come into the state.” The next session of the General Assembly begins Jan. 7 and ends the last part of March.
