Kia, Hyundai, and Genesis are pulling ahead when it comes to quality.

Backed by the heavily marketed 10-year, 100,000-mile warranty, the Kia, Hyundai, and Genesis vehicles have been deemed the highest initial quality offerings in the U.S., at least according to J.D. Power's annual IQS survey, which records the reported number of issues within the first 90 days of ownership.

This is the second year in a row now that the three Korean brands have taken the overall top slots. Hyundai and Kia models have also been recognized for their reliable electronics. The best overall vehicle in initial quality? You need to save at least $97,400 for a new Porsche 911.

“Automakers continue to make progress in areas like infotainment that attract a lot of consumer attention,” says Dave Sargent, Vice President of Global Automotive at J.D. Power. “However, some traditional problems crept up this year including paint imperfections, brake and suspension noises, engines not starting and the ‘check engine’ light coming on early in the ownership experience. Also, more people are having issues with their advanced driver assistance systems, which are critical for building consumer trust in future automated vehicles.”

Among the lowest-rated brands are Mitsubishi, Land Rover, and Jaguar. Due to state legalities, Tesla was not rated in the study.
