LAWRENCE, Kan. (KWCH) - The Kansas Jayhawks will enter the 2025 NCAA Tournament with their lowest seeding ever in the Bill Self era.

KU earned the No. 7 seed in the West region. It’s the first time in the two-plus decades under Self that the Jayhawks are lower than a No. 4 seed.

KU will open up against No. 10 seed Arkansas. The winner will advance to play No. 2 St. John’s or No. 15 Omaha in the second round. Game information is still TBD. The games will take place in Providence, Rhode Island.

KU opened the season as the preseason No. 1 ranked team in the country in the AP top 25 poll, following it up with key non-conference wins against North Carolina, Michigan State and Duke.

KU then lost back-to-back games to Creighton and Missouri in their first road trips of the year.

This Jayhawks team struggled in Big 12 play, failing to win more than two-straight games since early January. They matched the 2018 team with three home losses, and bottomed out with a 34-point loss at BYU.

A Senior Day victory over No. 24 Arizona closed out the regular season with an 11-9 record in conference play for Kansas and set them up for a 6 seed in the Big 12 Tournament in Kansas City, falling to the Wildcats in the quarterfinals.

The Jayhawks won their opening round game in the 2024 NCAA Tournament, defeating 13 seed Samford. They then were eliminated by 5 seed Gonzaga, 89-68.

The only time the Jayhawks have made it past the opening weekend since 2018 was their 2022 national championship run.
