A man walks into the Lakewood Library to return a book. Seems pretty normal, right? WRONG. This particular book was 13,838 days overdue!

We've all been there. You check out a book from your local library, you read said book and get caught up in the adventure of it all, but the due date quickly springs upon you without warning and next thing you know, your book is overdue. It happens to the best of us. For one man, however, it was an entirely different story. This man walked into the Lakewood Library to return an overdue book. Pretty normal, right? For the most part, yes. There's only one little detail missing... the book was 13,838 days overdue! (Yes, you read that correctly.) [caption id="attachment_10789" align="aligncenter" width="768"] photo courtesy of Lakewood Library[/caption] For those doing the math – that's 37 years, 10 months and 17 days! The book was due on April 12, 1979. Had the book still been in the library's system, at five cents a day, the fine would have been $691.90. Unfortunately, the library has no way of figuring out who had the book this entire time. And even if they could figure out who it was, it wouldn't matter – the max fine for an adult item is $4.20. https://www.instagram.com/p/BRbemaNBfbQ/ And you thought you had late fees? Think again! What was your favorite book to check out from the library as a kid? Tell us your favorites in the comments below! My personal favorite was "Clifford the Big Red Dog"!
