One person was shot and killed Tuesday night in Columbia during a disturbance that led to a standoff near Clark Lane.

Capt. Brian Leer with the Boone County Sheriff's Office confirmed the shooting happened on the 1300 block of Frideriki Drive.

Leer told KOMU 8 that a disturbance involving several people in the street preceded the shooting. When law enforcement arrived — within three minutes of the 911 call — they found an 18-year-old boy unresponsive. He did not respond to life-saving efforts and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Around 8:50 p.m., KOMU 8 crews saw multiple Columbia police officers at the scene with guns drawn. Officers were heard giving commands for people to exit homes, and one man was seen leaving a house with his hands raised.

The area remained blocked off late Tuesday night as officers continued their response. Police have not released any information about possible suspects or arrests.
