A 19-year-old Erie, Illinois, man suffered critical injuries after he was intentionally run over by another teen during an altercation Sunday morning at TBK Bank Sports Complex in Bettendorf, police said.

According to the arrest affidavits filed by Bettendorf police detective Zachary Gish, the victim and Holden Van Smith, 19, of LeClaire, had been communicating over social media. They agreed to meet at the sports complex to have a physical fight.

Smith drove to the complex in a 2009 Toyota Prius.

When Smith saw the other teen standing in the parking lot of the complex, he accelerated and intentionally struck the victim with his car, according to the affidavits. The car then crashed through a fence and came to a stop on the soccer field, causing significant damage to the fence and field.

Smith fled the scene on foot, leaving the victim unconscious in the parking lot.
