11:15PM: Light freezing drizzle and mist continue to move across the area with the heaviest now shifting to the east towards Chicago and Milwaukee. There have been several accidents reported across the region, even on the interstates. Travel is not advised tonight as roads remain icy. Conditions will gradually improve but icy roads may still be a concern through early Thursday morning. Please be mindful of black ice Thursday morning and take caution while traveling on the county/country roads, on/off ramps, etc. Parking lots and sidewalks will remain slick through the morning.

9:40PM: There have been a few bouts of heavier freezing drizzle occurring over northern Illinois this evening, with the heaviest now focused from near Rochelle down to Paw Paw, and then to the east over DeKalb County. Steady freezing drizzle now occurring over Boone and McHenry counties.

8:50PM: Road conditions showing completely covered roads reported across Northwestern Illinois, with additional slick spots likely in many other locations in Northern Illinois. Be sure to take it slow and be cautious of slick spots, especially on untreated surfaces!

The winter weather advisory was extended to include Southern Wisconsin until 3AM Thursday. Northwestern Illinois will see the advisory last until 12AM, while the rest of Northern Illinois runs until 6AM. A glaze of ice remains possible areawide.

8PM: Light drizzle has begun in downtown Rockford, via our skytrack camera. With temperatures sitting in the upper 20s, slick spots will quickly develop on untreated surfaces with the drizzle now falling.

Areas of freezing drizzle and freezing fog will begin to expand across northwest Illinois over the next hour as moisture continues to get drawn in from the southwest. Temperatures are expected to remain below freezing through the rest of the evening.

Roads in Iowa continue to deteriorate where the freezing drizzle has been occurring creating rather slick and hazardous road conditions. As the freezing drizzle expands further east and northeast, we will likely begin to see some icy and slick conditions develop across portions of northwest and north-central Illinois. Travel will become hazardous, especially on roads that have not been treated, later this evening.
