Pregame: Two items of note before this one.

For one, the Lions have a new backup quarterback. Teddy Bridgewater is active and Hendon Hooker is the emergency third quarterback, a reversal from the regular season finale.

Rookie cornerback Ennis Rakestraw is inactive. He returned to practice this week following a hamstring injury but apparently didn’t progress enough to get on the field.

Defensive lineman Chris Smith and cornerback Stantley Thomas-Oliver were activated from the practice squad for the game.

And, as expected, fellow rookie cornerback Terrion Arnold is active after being carted off vs. the Vikings due to an ankle injury.

It’s about to get loud in Ford Field again.

The Lions open the playoffs with a Saturday night divisional matchup against the Washington Commanders.

The No. 1 seed in the NFC after a 15-2 regular season, the Lions are coming off of a bye that helped them get healthier – in particular get running back David Montgomery back healthy.

They will face a Commanders team that took down the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the wild card round on the road behind the latest standout performance from standout rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels.

When the Lions hosted a divisional playoff game a year ago, Ford Field became one of the loudest stadiums in NFL history. Expect something similar this time around.

Kickoff is at 8 p.m. We’ll have live updates throughout the game.
