DBS&A relocated its offices the week of March 17 to the entire second floor of Uptown's One Park Square building. The engineering and environmental consulting firm's move comes amid a potential change in ownership of its previous office building and a need for more space with an uptick in employment and plans for more hiring. Its former office building at 6020 Academy Road NE is listed for $2.75 million, according to a listing on Commercial Association of Realtors New Mexico. Kate Potter of Colliers New Mexico-El Paso is the listing broker. DBS&A also grew its employment by 15% over the last year and anticipates hiring five or six more people within the next year, DBS&A President Gundar Peterson said. Its previous office space wasn’t set up to accommodate that many employees, so DBS&A had to separate employees into different suites, Peterson said. "It just sort of worked out that those two factors made us really start seriously looking," Peterson said. "It was happenstance of a combination of we needed more space to grow and the previous owner was selling that building, so it was a good time to get out." The One Park Square office space allows all DBS&A's employees to be on one floor and gives them room to grow, Peterson said. This, coupled with the convenience and amenities of Uptown, made the One Park Square office space a desirable option for the company. The local consulting firm signed a lease that goes into 2032 for its new 15,300-square-foot office space in March, Peterson said. He declined to disclose what DBS&A will pay in monthly lease payments. REA’s Tom Jenkins represented DBS&A in the deal, and Jackie Moss Apodaca represented the landlord, Peterson said. “(Tom) identified a couple of different properties for us, (but) this was the first one he found, and it was really our first choice,” Peterson said. “I think Uptown — between the stuff they’re doing here and what they’re doing with the Winrock facility — I think it’s just a much more attractive area for folks and businesses in general.” DBS&A did not do any tenant improvements to the space other than painting, Peterson said.
