Medical equipment is often a big expense for people who only need it temporarily. Now, a Greenwood Village nonprofit is working to help.
The South Metro Medical Equipment Closet, a one-year-old nonprofit in Greenwood Village, is offering a free solution to medical expenses. They take donated gear, clean it, and then let people borrow it completely for free. The gear is available to adults across the Denver area. [gallery size="large" ids="13404,13405,13406"] Equipment and financial donations to the nonprofit are tax deductible and any money received goes towards paying for insurance and cleaning supplies. The most-needed equipment donations are knee cruisers, hospital beds and wheelchairs.We have had people tell us a wheelchair costs $400, and they just can't afford to buy one... And so we are there to supply that need." -Donna Ralston, FounderThe South Metro Medical Equipment Closet has eight volunteers who take calls for loan requests. "A lot of them only need it for a little bit of time so they don't really want to spend the money buying something," volunteer Patti Jo Oakley told 9News.
