Relocated pets are available to adopt!

As Hurricane Laura bore down on the South, shelters were looking at overflowing populations with more animals coming in after the storm hit.

To help alleviate crowding, and give the shelter pets a chance at finding their "furever" home, a local shelter opened its doors to animals coming from rural Texas shelters.

The Human Society of South Platte Valley (HSSPV) in Littleton helped out overwhelmed shelters by taking on several cats and dogs. The Colorado shelter specifically asked to receive animals that had gone unadopted for quite a while, hoping that Colorado pet lovers would give them a fresh chance.

While the shelter takes on animals when others are struggling due to natural disasters, it also does this on a regular basis to help animals that are at rural shelters with fewer adoption rates.

"HSSPV is proud to be an organization whose mission is to save lives. In addition to sheltering local stray and unwanted animals, each year, HSSPV transfers in hundreds of animals from outside communities!" the organization said on its Facebook page. "Sadly, many rural areas in places like Texas & New Mexico lack adequate adoption resources. In most cases it is extremely challenging to find homes for their animals, even animals that are considered to be "highly adoptable"! Some animals need medical help, some need behavioral intervention, and some are absolutely perfect...just ended up in the wrong place at the wrong time. THATS WHERE HSSPV STEPS IN! Our animal shelter is able to transfer these animals into our program, provide them with the care they need, and find them the loving homes they deserve!"

If you are looking for a buddy, and want to give an animal a safe and healthy home, visit the Humane Society of the South Platte Valley. There are plenty of cuddly cats and dogs that will become much-loved members of your family.
